Oooh Aaah

Oooh Aaah

It is hard to choose a favourite Destination Spa in Australia when there are so many good ones on offer, but I will go out on a limb and say Wolgan Valley must come close. This Emirates-owned, $140 million luxury property is beyond stunning. The unique location helps, along with the respect given to the environment, but the attention given to all facets of this resort puts them in a class of their own, especially when it comes to the food… and the aptly named Timeless Spa.

I love that Wolgan Valley embraces everything Australian, from an old cattle trough used as a light fitting to tree stumps used as decor in the Spa. All villas have a verandah overlooking the valley (complete with rocking chairs for soaking up the view), private pool, open fireplace in the stunning living room, massive bed (you almost need a step ladder to climb in), designer bathroom with skylight (giving the impression of showering outdoors) and your own two mountain bikes for exploring.

If you’re up early enough, you will catch a kangaroo or two grazing in the lush fields and see the most spectacular sunrise over the mountains. You can also go trekking on guided nature tours, horse riding (which I highly reccommend) or simply take time out and indulge in a quieter pace for a change. Which brings me back to the Spa… The Spa reminds me of walking into a lolly shop when I was a kid. They have moved away from the usual minimilist or Balinese decor to something original and full of inspiration – beautiful art, glorious furnishings, lots of different textures and natural light. Spa suites have a massive picture window to let the outside in. I’ll give you the complete low-down on my visit in the next issue, but try to get yourself to Wolgan Valley in the meantime… you’ll never forget it!
